Tehran is willing to reinitiate atomic negotiations with Washington as long as it is treated with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's foreign minister has announced.
The Iranian diplomat stated solely negotiations worked, and shared new appeals had been made by intermediaries to restart negotiations with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran was not yet able to permit the global atomic watchdog to access bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.
Navigating a Complex Route
Araghchi is treading a difficult route since Iran does not want be seen to be acting from a position of vulnerability, and he consistently maintained that Iran had arisen more powerful militarily and emotionally from the joint assault on its enrichment centers in June.
He was speaking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium domestically that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the previous talks.
Previous Negotiations Unexpectedly Terminated
The earlier sessions of talks between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and hostile end on 12 June when Israel, with US support, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that culminated with the US president claiming the facilities had been destroyed. Afterward, European countries employed their authority to reimpose global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a significant effect.
Perfect Agreement Suggested
Iran's diplomats stated they felt they had achieved a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in earlier negotiations, when it was agreed an domestic cooperative with US participation could process nuclear material. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since local refinement would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.
It had not been agreed in the talks that US nuclear scientists could function within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the partnership suggestion. Officials asserted repeatedly they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the agreement to collapse due to "spoilers in Washington".
Present Status
Iran's diplomats said the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems quite possible the suggestion could be reintroduced in some form if talks resume.
The American leader in recent days claimed he had been obtaining communications that Iran sought to restart talks, but privately Tehran representatives say they are not yet receiving clear proposals from Washington either directly or from significant local go-betweens, such as the Qatari government, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been accused of inactivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran says diplomacy is not part of a show.
Political Position
In his speech to the conference, intended to paint the US as a controlling nation that misuses the notion of international law, Araghchi stated the 12-day war demonstrated the dispute could not be settled by military means. He said the assaults began with a US demand for an total Iran submission and culminated with an absolute demand for a halt to hostilities.
Iran is convinced the first strikes by Israel were executed with total Washington understanding and coordination, making confidence hard to rebuild.
Negotiations Remains the Ultimate Solution
The foreign minister stated: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned negotiations; it was the United States and the western countries that had consistently attempted to dictate their demands during the negotiations. Dialogue can still be viable and remains the primary resolution to resolve disputes, but its criteria, rules and fundamentals must be adhered to."
"Provided that they address to the Iranian people with the approach of dignity and honor, they will get a answer in the identical tone."
Restoration and Recovery
In what is characterized by Tehran representatives as the struggle of restoration and recovery, the foreign minister said he was assured Iran's military capacities "are much stronger than before 13 or 14 June of this year. Every aspect of our defense have been rebuilt. We acquired numerous insights from this war; we have come to know our internal vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of the adversary."
He continued: "We effectively endured this conflict. Our enrichment knowledge, which they aimed to destroy, stays intact. The installations and machinery, if damaged, will be restored; what is essential is the will of the nation of Iran and then the unity of the country that they aimed at, but did not succeed to shatter. The Iranian people have become stronger, more integrated, and more endorsing of the government and the country in the wake of this invasion."
