The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
